What better way to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month 2013 than with a giveaway? I was recently contacted about ArteKids, a beautiful new series of bilingual board books that celebrate art from around the world and introduce first concepts. The publisher, Tu Press, has generously agreed to give away a full set of the the books to one lucky reader of ¡Es Divertido Hablar Dos Idiomas!
These five bilingual board books, with text from the San Antonio Public Library Foundation and illustrations from the San Antonio Museum of Art are excellent choices for all public library collections. They introduce numbers, colors, shapes, animals and vocabulary through images of diverse art, including paintings, sculpture, photography and more. Questions in English and Spanish on each page spark interaction between child and caregiver. Examples from Animal Amigos! include: "Can you walk like an elephant?" and "¿Por qué se esconden los monos entre las rocas?" These suggestions help inspire dialogic reading, movement and conversation between adult and child, making the books excellent choices when introducing early literacy and school readiness concepts to parents. The artwork from around the world featured in the illustrations is cited in the end pages of each book. I hope that the series continues to grow!
To be entered in the drawing for a complete set of the five books currently in the ArteKids series, simply leave a comment on this post by the end of the day Friday, September 20. I'd love it if you would share how you intend to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this year, or how you think you may use these books if you the winner. I will put the names in a drawing and randomly select a winner, who will be contacted by a representative of Tu Press for details on how to receive the books.
Thanks, Tu Press, for this generous offer!

I would use the books to help teach my little one Spanish! Gracias!
I would add the books to my bookmobile's collection, and try to find someone to help me do a bilingual storytime!
I would give them to the children's librarian at my library, and I would use them at our Hispanic Heritage Fiesta.
These look like a great start for introducing Spanish in my "Tiny Tots" Lapsit Storytime! Especially when adding them with some Spanish lullabies and simple rhymes.
These books would be such a great addition to our library. We have many young children whose parents speak minimal to no English and I would love to offer these kinds of boards books!
I have a flock of wonderful Spanish speaking nannies and I would love to have these to show them things they can do with their charges and with their own children. So many of them come to the library and don't use the BOOKS, and I want to do more for them. Thanks!
I would love to win! We are building our Spanish collection at the library. Our Hispanic population has really picked up and I was just talking with our Dept. Head, telling her we need more Spanish books.

What a wonderful giveaway! It would be a perfect addition to our home library. :)
They look like fun books--thanks for showing them to us. I'd be delighted to win a set to share with the Spanish-speaking families in my monthly outreach story time and with the patrons in our library.
Hi! I am a new reader of your blog from Spain. The book looks fantastic and I'd love to read it to my son and nieces (they speak Spanish, so it'd help them with their English). Thank you and best regards from Barcelona,
Marta

I would use them in my Head Start Pre-K classroom.
These seem to be great resources! I am trying to add bilingual books to my Library's collection in a community college. We have Early Childhood Education students and I am trying to diversify the children's section as much as I can. Thank you for doing this!
What a great collaborative project! Please enter me in your drawing. I will use them in my Hispanic early literacy outreach.
We would lake the books to our Mama y Yo classes.
We have a large Hispanic population at our library, and these would be a big hit. We are doing our Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday with stories, music and dancing!
I work with low-income Hispanic children so this would be donated for Story time! ~Mari It didn't prompt me for my email but I did share my website so hopefully that is sufficient in the event of winning.
I'd use the books to teach myself some Spanish and to add to my personal book collection. I'm still in the beginning of library school so I'm not doing programing yet, but I can practice on my niece & nephews!
I would hope to add some of the books to our growing Spanish collection and offer 1 book as a prize at the bilingual story time I've been asked to start. We're planning to also feature Braille, sign language study, and examples of books in various anguages which I've been collecting from donations.
Jennifer Kelley, congratulations! You are the winner of the set of bilingual board books from ArteKids! I will be emailing you soon with details on how to receive your books. Thanks to everyone who submitted a comment. Just FYI for those of you who work in libraries who are interested in learning more about working with Spanish-speaking communities through outreach and/or bilingual storytime, I have two upcoming classes this fall with Library Juice Academy. I'd love to see some blog readers in both of my classes!
